The world-respected shipbuilding term ‘Clydebuilt’ re-entered the language in November 2017 as the reborn shipyard, Port Glasgow-based Ferguson Marine, celebrated the launch of the UK’s first ever dual fuel LNG ferry.

The 103m, 1000 passenger, 126 vehicle MV Glen Sannox is the first of two new vessels to be powered by a greener partnership of marine diesel and Liquified Natural Gas, and will enter service with Caledonian MacBrayne between Ardrossan and the Isle of Arran.

The new Ferguson’s – which previously created the World’s first Hybrid Battery Ferry – has seen the old yard totally demolished and rebuilt as one of the world’s most advanced shipbuilding facilities.

New owner, Clyde Blowers Capital, is putting the final touches to the £25 million first-stage of an ambitious rebuild programme and with the yard now on the MoD roster to compete for the new Royal Navy Type 31e Frigates, the next stage of investment is already being planned.
